Why Trust Us with Your Dog?

Why Trust Us with Your Dog?

Marcum K9 Training has been in the dog training business for several years and we pride ourselves on being masters in the dog training field. We understand your dog is an extension of your family which is why a trainer will treat your dog as their own while they are enrolled in our training program. We understand each customer comes to us with unique needs and circumstances which is why we offer a variety of plans meant to meet your dog where they are to ensure a positive experience!

Why is Training Important?

Having a dog that is properly trained is an essential step to living a long, happy, and healthy life with your beloved dog. Training prevents accidents from happening with other animals and helps keep you and your dog safe in unexpected, or potentially dangerous situations. Training also provides your dog with more confidence as you both progress through our basic obedience classes. As you spend time with your dog practicing techniques you learn in training, your dog will slowly begin to form a stronger bond with you because they look to you for guidance. Plus, it’s fun to show off all the tricks your dog has learned to your friends and family!

Types of Dog Training

Marcum K9 Training offers 4 main types of dog training services: puppy training, aggressive behaviors training, boarding training, and service-based training. The foundation of all these lessons starts with dog obedience training, then varies in complexity depending on you and your dog’s specific needs.

Each of our programs is designed to meet your needs by addressing 3 main areas: dog behavior, the dog owner’s behaviors, and the environment in which you both live. The assessment helps us understand the root cause of the issues and how you and your dog can move forward together as a stronger, more aligned partnership.

Why is Training Important?
Puppy Training

Puppy Training

As expected, our puppy lessons are the first step in properly training your dog. It’s customary to get your dog started in training after they are a few months old. This is the prime development age where dogs can pick up on bad habits that can last a lifetime. We will work with your dog on things like proper leash training for walks, learning simple, everyday commands, and new distraction training. Luckily for you, our puppy training classes will ensure your dog earns the spot for most well-behaved in the Columbus, Ohio area!
Aggressive Dog Training

Aggressive Behavior Training

This option is designed to help dogs and owners alike in addressing more aggressive and worrisome behaviors. Many people are surprised to hear that a dog’s behavior is often a reflection of their owner’s behavior. This isn’t to shame dog owners into using our training services, but more for you to understand the importance of training your dog. Although domesticated, dogs too are still animals that need direction!
Board & Train

Board Training

We also offer a more in-depth training program. This involves boarding your dog at our in-home training facility with us while we work with them. Our facility is surrounded by the hustle and bustle of everyday distractions to practice real-world scenarios. This ensures dog training is progressing adequately in real-world environments and not just in a controlled training atmosphere. This type of training plan allows us to take the initial brunt of the work for working professionals or busy families that may prevent you from engaging in the proper training your dog needs. It’s often a common occurrence that new dog owners want their dogs boarded during their puppy training!
Service Dog Training

Service Animal Training

Dogs are incredible companions on their own. However, if you find yourself needing more assistance with struggles that may come with having a disability, training a dog to be your service animal could be life-changing! Unlike other companies, we do not breed dogs specifically for this purpose, but instead allow you to find the dog that fits your needs first before bringing them for special training. We work with customers who have a variety of disabilities including mental, physical, and emotional, and much like our other programs we accommodate the service-based training program to your specifications.

The Marcum Training Process

Set Up a Dog Training Consultation

The first step is to get in contact with one of our dog trainers so we can discuss your needs in depth. You will meet us at our facility so we can see how you and your dog interact with each other and the environment around you. From there we discuss your expectations and how we can make those goals a reality.

Customized Program

After the consultation, we’ll develop a program based on your dog’s experience level and your needs as a dog owner. We’ll lay out the time frame, cost, and results that we expect to see by the end of the program.

Training Process

Training is not just a learning process for your dog, it’s a process for you both! You will learn how to lead your dog into becoming the well-mannered pet everyone adores. Don’t worry, we’ll teach you everything you need to know and, in many ways, you’ll become a sort of dog trainer yourself!

Maintaining Training

Keeping your dog training skills sharp will ultimately depend on how often you use training at home. As they say, practice makes perfect! Keeping the commands and exercises you learn through our program fresh in your dog’s mind is key to long-lasting progress. However, if you do find your dog falling back into old habits, our dog trainers will be committed to helping get your dog back on track. You’re welcome to call us at the training facility or stop by with your dog to get in touch with a trainer. They will assist you in understanding whether your dog needs additional services or just a few adjustments to their original training.
What to Know Before Your Dog Begins Training?

What to Know Before Your Dog Begins Training?

It’s important to remember each dog is unique and so are their needs during training. Be patient as this is a learning process for both you and your dog. Much like humans, dogs mature with time which is why we recommend getting dogs in training early on. However, based on our customized approach to dog training, we are here to work with you every step of the way no matter how hairy the situation!

What Can I Do to Get My Dog Started Early?

It’s never too early to get your dog started with training at home! There are some simple commands like sit, place, down and come that you can work on teaching your dog before you start your training program. Practicing early with your dog gets them accustomed to listening to your instructions, which will be very beneficial when training does begin. Staying consistent with training at home will ensure your furry friend will be the top dog in Columbus!

How Can I Book an Appointment?
